Mixing Rock & Roll, Rythm & Blues and Pop, with an element somewhere between New Wave and Punk, produces a recipe which creates songs like It Started With A Kiss. A recipe that was used in the birth of TempesT, a band that crossed early Metallica/Ramones with a suble layer of pop country creating a sound that can be heard in the songs Can't Say No, which reached #6 on the Australian Heavy Rock charts & #17 on the Rock charts with the released the TEMPEST version, & Something At Last which Randy has reworked and continues to use. Unaware of the potential they possessed together, each member decided to pursue different avenues and projects.
With TempesT lieing in the anals of history, Randy switched to guitar and fronted the band the Boyz of Noize , a group that took the recipe more towards Power/Pop Punk. Though very raw and at times unfocused, this project became the blueprints for the Lohner Bubblegum Metal sound and found Randy venturing into new areas in songs like If I Ever See You Again & (Looking For A) Scandel. Personnel changes, disagreements in direction & lack of focus doomed the group.
After the breakup of the boyz Randy moved to Detroit Lakes, Mn. and spent a few years concentrating on writing & recording. This period was also a time to co-write and produce other artists as well as occasionally sitting in with a local bar band. The freedom to explore many different styles can be heard on Expose Yourself, one of Randy's first attempts at multiple tempos. After 5 years, Randy moved to Fergus Falls, Mn. and soon became involved in the local scene which was vastly alternative. And unknown. The seeds of Seduced By Evil were planted during this time, on keyboards! And finding a ripe underground produced songs like What The World Needs Now which reached #1 on the Australian Mod Rock charts, A Cry For Release, Phobia which reached #14 on the Australian Power Pop charts & Ashes To Ashes which hung out at #4 on the Metal charts, all containing Randy's growing use of keyboards for background melodies. The opportunity to explore his past spawned It's Just Rock & Roll as well as exploring new worlds in Dance The Forbidden Dance, which reached #6 on the Australian Power Pop charts & Another Time, Another Place which placed at #7.
Shortly after, Randy became involved with a group called the HeartRockers which added Blues to the recipe and gave birth to the songs Next To Thee, another #1 & Light The Flame. Although the project fizzled, it set the stage for what has become Randy Lohner and opened the doors to songs like Dream The Dream, Born To Rock & Learning How To Live Again with songs like Galilee & Feel The Power sitting on the wings.
